Welcome to the Pfizer Sponsored Lunch Symposium
Drivers, Resistance, Reinvention: The Next Chapter in ER+ Metastatic Breast Cancer.
You’re invited to an engaging and forward-looking symposium exploring the next chapter in the management of oestrogen receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer (ER+ mBC). As our understanding of resistance mechanisms continues to evolve, emerging therapies targeting the cell cycle and PI3K/AKT pathway are reshaping treatment strategies and opening new opportunities to improve patient outcomes.
Join leading experts Professor Shom Goel, Professor Sara Hurvitz, and Dr Joshua Hurwitz as they explore:
- The ER+ mBC treatment landscape in 2026: where we are, and where the gaps are.
- New approaches to targeting the cell cycle in ER+ breast cancer.
- Targeting the PAM Axis: Next-generation PI3K strategies and real-time decision-making in ER+ mBC.
- Case-based panel discussion and session close.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from internationally recognised leaders in breast cancer research, gain practical insights into the rapidly evolving ER+ metastatic breast cancer landscape, and connect with colleagues from across the oncology community. We look forward to seeing you there!

Shom Goel
Conference Guest Speaker
Associate Professor Goel is a Clinician-Scientist at the University of Melbourne and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Having spent ten years in Boston, where he completed his doctoral and postdoctoral research, Associate Professor Goel returned to Australia in 2019.
In addition to maintaining a clinical practice as an oncologist, he also leads a research group positioned at the intersection of cell cycle biology, epigenetics, and tumour immunology in breast cancer.
They have developed several new transgenic mouse models of breast cancer, which have proven valuable for uncovering new mechanisms of drug activity and resistance, and their work has been published in high-impact journals including Nature, Cancer Cell, and Nature Cancer.
He serves as either Global PI or Translational PI for four randomised clinical trials in breast cancer and was appointed Chair of the American Society of Clinical Oncology Education Committee (2023).
Associate Professor Goel is also a recent awardee of a prestigious Snow Fellowship, which will accelerate his laboratory’s work from 2022 – 2030.

Dr Hurvitz earned her MD from the University of Southern California. She completed an internship/residency at UCLA, was Chief Resident of internal medicine, and completed a hematology-oncology fellowship at UCLA in 2006.
Dr Hurvitz led the breast cancer clinical trials program at UCLA for 17 years and was Medical Director of the Clinical Research Unit of the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center until 2023, when she accepted a leadership position at UW/FHCC.
Dr Hurvitz has won numerous awards over the past few years, among them the Marni Levine Memorial Breast Cancer Research Award 2008 through 2015 and the European Society of Medical Oncology Breast Cancer Award in 2023.
She has an active clinical practice specialising in the treatment of women with breast cancer. She is involved in designing, implementing and leading multiple national and international clinical trials testing new targeted therapies.

Josh undertook a breast and genitourinary cancer fellowship at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and The Kinghorn Cancer Centre under internationally acclaimed leaders Professor Elgene Lim and Professor Anthony Joshua. To gain further expertise, Josh completed an observership at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.
Josh is committed to evidence-based medicine, ensuring his patients receive the gold standard of care while taking a compassionate, holistic approach. His passion for best practice is only matched by his commitment to his patients, ensuring their needs are met during their cancer journey. Josh is also engaged in education and research, having his research published nationally and internationally. He co-hosts a global education oncology podcast called Oncology for the Inquisitive Mind.
